Because some wounds can’t be seen — but they can be understood.
Every day, children and teenagers sit in classrooms carrying invisible burdens - trauma from abuse, violence, neglect, or loss. Some act out, some withdraw, some appear perfectly fine. But inside, they’re silently suffering. Likely they are doing the best to supress, forget or not think about their trauma which can lead to dealing with - or not dealing with - their trauma in self destructive ways. This can lead to depression and self loathing that can be carried into adulthood.
The Silent Suffering is a program in the making. Our mission is to create a trauma-informed education program designed to help young people understand themselves and their emotions, and to give teachers the tools to support them.
Our goal is to bring awareness, and language into schools. It is to put the information in front of children and teens at times when they don't want to ask for help so they might have a chance to understand their pain and behaviours which result from trauma and help them process it as soon as possible.
